Diploma of Management - Recreation Planning

HM Leisure Planning’s Dr Ken Marriott will be conducting the company’s
nationally and internationally recognised vocational and educational training (VET) accredited course in recreation planning again in 2011-12. The course is aimed at middle level professionals who have responsibility for managing recreation planning staff and programs, who carry out recreation planning studies and for those wishing to move into the field of recreation planning. Successful participants will earn a Diploma of Management - Recreation Planning.
The course is based on a successful pilot program run for Tasmanian state and local government recreation professionals in 2006-7.
The next course, planned for 2011-12 and will be run over a period of 12 months.
The Diploma of Management in recreation planning covers the full scope of leading-edge recreation planning practice including:
Policy development
Literature reviews
Leisure participation and provision trends
Assessing existing leisure provision
Consultations strategies
Benefits analyses
Importance/performance analysis
Catchment analysis
Planning for natural areas
Planning for trails
Preparing a recreation plan
Project budgeting, and
Performance monitoring and evaluation.
This material is integrated into 8 federally-accredited Vocational and Educational Training Units with the case materials for these being drawn from the workplace of candidates or some other selected organisation. In addition, these Units encompass elements of the management of the recreation planning process including ensuring team effectiveness, managing people resources, managing operational plans and managing information systems. These Units ensure that the course candidates achieve both specific recreational and broader professional outcomes.
The course comes with a free course Manual that was specifically-written for the course together with a range of other relevant reference materials.
The course is delivered through four weekend classroom sessions spread over a year with these including workshops, Unit writing sessions, fieldwork and seminars. These weekends will be held in November 2011 and in February, May and August of 2012. Research, reading and written assignments will be allocated between class sessions.
The course will be run in Melbourne and Sydney depending on demand.
The full fee for the 2011-12 course is $7,250. This is paid to the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), National Business Institute of Australia http://www.nbi.com.au. To reserve a place on the course a fully-refundable deposit of $1,000 is to be paid with the application to enrol. If required instalment payments are available by negotiation.
Federal and State government grants are available for eligible candidates meeting defined criteria and enrolled in the Diploma of Management course.
Federal government grants of up to $3,000 payable to the employer
State government grants of up to $2,000 payable to the student

Candidates will be given pre-reading prior to the commencement of the course and will be expected to collect materials for two Units which will be the subject of a Unit-writing session during the first class sessions.
The Linton Kerber Memorial Award will be made to the top candidate on completion of the course in memory of Linton Kerber, a leading Tasmanian recreation planner who died in 2009.
